Where to go if you have been scammed: bank, police and platform
A short guide: what to do in the first minutes after a scam and where to report fraud.
The main rule: act fast. The sooner you call your bank and report the payment, the better the chance of stopping the money.
First steps
- Call your bank using the number on the back of your card or through the official app. Ask them to block your card and to stop or dispute the payment.
- Save the evidence: screenshots of messages, phone numbers, usernames, website addresses, payment receipts.
- Contact the police and the relevant authorities in your country. The report number will be useful for your bank.
- Report the scammer's account on the platform where you were in contact.
- Warn others: add a report to our registry.
Where to find contact details
Look for phone numbers and addresses only on the official websites of the police and your bank. Do not call "help service" numbers from emails, messages or ads: scammers often pretend to be the police, a bank or a "money recovery service".
What not to do
- Do not pay "helpers" who promise to get your money back for an upfront fee: "lawyers", "hackers", "Interpol officers". This is a common continuation of the same scam.
- Do not send more money to "get back what you put in" on investment platforms and "paid tasks" platforms.
- Do not delete the messages, even if you really want to forget what happened.
